Think of it this way: if there is one city where everyone goes for counselling and shopping in a town hall. This city has tons of town halls; what’s interesting is that new town halls are built very often.

Along with the weird obsession with building new town halls, there is also one rule that anyone can open a store in any town hall and start selling to the people who visit there.

But there is one Main Town Hall, where almost everyone goes to.

Now, as someone who is starting a new business or already running a business, you have a decision to make;

Choice 1# Focus on only the main townhall and ditch all other townhalls altogether, or

Choice 2# Focus on the main town hall, but also be active and start building your presence in other important town halls.

I am sure you will choose the second one.

This same framework is applicable to doing SEO also. Where the main town hall is, as you already know, is Google.

Most search engine optimizers make the mistake of only focusing on one Search engine to drive traffic to their website.

Yes, I agree that Google has almost 85% of the search market share, but it doesn’t mean that you should ignore other search engines completely and not utilize their potential.

But you might be thinking that, why does it matter?

Isn’t focusing on the big players that have 85% of the market share matter the most because that’s where most of the people will be?

It’s true, but remember, big players like Google have the liberty to alter the rules of the game any time they want. And if they did, it might negatively impact your next quarter’s bottom line.

But let’s assume Google is not that evil, and you are in their good books; in that case, look at the upside & benefit of investing your time and resources in optimizing for other search engines.

  1. You would have Diversity in your SEO strategy.
  2. You would generate traffic to your website.
  3. All other search engines look up to Google as a torch bearer, so what you do to optimize your website for Google will be the same for other search engines. Though there will be some slight variations, but at the core strategies will be same.

Now, without any further ado, here is a list of other important search engines where you should start building your presence;

  1. Bing
  2. Yahoo!
  3. Yandex
  4. DuckDuckGo
  5. Baidu
  6. Ask.com
  7. Naver
  8. Brave
  9. Ecosia
  10. There are many others.

Though there are many other search engines, keep in mind that you should focus on the ones that matter the most.
